Two Day National Seminar on ‘Popularization of Physical Sciences’ at M M Modi College, Patiala
The Post-Graduate Department of Mathematics and the department of Physics of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized a two-day seminar on the topic of ‘Popularization of Physical Sciences’ under aegis of silver jubilee celebrations sponsored by International Academy of Physical Sciences (IAPS) Allahabad, India. The seminar was held to promote logical and critical foundations of physical sciences for reconstruction of popular narratives about importance of physical sciences. College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the key note speaker and chief guest and said that popularization of fundamental scientific knowledge is crucial for developing scientific temperament among masses. On the first day of the seminar Prof. M. S. Mawraha, former Principal, SGGC, Sector 26, Chandigarh under the interactive lecture series, ‘Making Physics Fun’ demonstrated the fundamental concepts including waves, momentum, motion and vacuum. The series was focused at simplifying the theoretical laws and principles into communicative language.
On the second day of the seminar the main speaker in the seminar was Dr. Sudesh Kaur Khanduja, CSIR, Emeritus Scientist, IISER, Mohali and Emeritus Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The guest of honour were Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Basic and Applied Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. R. K. Nagaich, Professor and former Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Mathematics Department, Punjabi University, Patiala. Vice Principal Dr. Mrs. Baljinder Kaur welcomed the keynote speaker and the guests.
Dr. Varun Jain, Department of Mathematics formally introduced the key-note speaker and other guests. In her key-note address Dr. Sudesh Kaur Khanduja said that Science is a constant longing for exploration of truth. Exploring her topic, ‘A journey through irreducible polynomials’ she demonstrated how experimentation, verification and further testing of deductions leads to logical conclusions. Guest of honour Dr. Rakesh Kumar in his talk ‘Curves and Surfaces’ explored Gaussian Curvature, Principle Curvature and Umbilical Points by giving live demonstrations and figures. Dr. R. K. Nagaich congratulated the college for conducting such an enriching seminar and said that such platforms are crucial to learn about new discoveries and research in the sciences.
The stage was conducted by Dr. Chetna Sharma. In this seminar, Prof. Chetna Gupta, Prof. Rajwinder Kaur, Dr. Anu Bala, Dr. Kavita, Dr. Kanandeep Kaur and Dr. Manpreet Kaur a large number of research scholars, faculty from various colleges and Universities and students were also present.

‘ਪਾਪੂਲਰਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ਼ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਦੋ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ
ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ-ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਮੈਥਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ‘ਪਾਪੂਲਰਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ਼ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਅਕੈਡਮੀ ਆਫ਼ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼ (ਆਈ.ਏ.ਪੀ.ਐਸ.) ਅਲਾਹਾਬਾਦ, ਭਾਰਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਭਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਲਵਰ ਜੁਬਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ, ਗੈਸਟ ਆਫ਼ ਆਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਰੋਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੂਲ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਪੱਧਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਬਕਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਕੋਣ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਮੈਕਿੰਗ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਫਨ ਸੀਰੀਜ਼ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਇੰਟਰੈਕਟਿਵ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਡੈਮੋਸਟਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਮਰਵਾਹਾ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਲਜ, ਸੈਕਟਰ 26, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀਕਸ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢਲੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵੇਵਸ, ਮੋਸ਼ਨ, ਓਪਟੀਕਸ ਅਤੇ ਵੈਕਯੂਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਤਜਰਬੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਸੀਰੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੇ ਗੁੰਝਲਦਾਰ ਸਿਧਾਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਥਿਊਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਖੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਿਨ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਡਾ. ਸੁਦੇਸ਼ ਕੌਰ ਖੰਡੂਜਾ, ਅਮੈਰੀਟਸ ਸਾਇੰਟਿਸਟ, ਡਿਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ ਆਫ਼ ਮੈਥਮੈਟੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼, ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਆਫ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਂਡ ਰਿਸਰਚ, ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਅਮੈਰੀਟਸ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਗੈਸਟ ਆਫ਼ ਆਨਰ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਡਾ. ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਐਸੋਸੀਟੇਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਡਿਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ ਆਫ਼ ਬੇਸਿਕ ਐਂਡ ਅਪਲਾਈਡ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਆਰ. ਕੇ. ਨਗੈਚ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਡੀਨ, ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ, ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਡਿਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਮਿਸਿਜ਼ ਬਲਜਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਡਾ. ਵਰੁਣ ਜੈਨ, ਮੈਥਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਡੈਲੀਗੇਟਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਸਮੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਸੁਦੇਸ਼ ਕੌਰ ਖੰਡੂਜਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਸੱਚ ਲਈ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਖੋਜ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਏ ਜਰਨੀ ਥਰੂ ਇਰਿਡਊਸੇਬਲ ਪੋਲੀਨੌਮੀਅਲ’ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤਰਕ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸਿੱਟਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਲਈ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ, ਸਿੱਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਖਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਤਾਰਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਡਾ. ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ‘ਕਰਵਸ ਐਂਡ ਸਰਫੇਸਿਸ’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਵੇਚਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਰਫੇਸਿਸ ਦੀ ਗੋਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਕਰਵੇਚਰ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਕਰਵੇਚਰ ਅਤੇ ਐਬਲਿਕਲ ਪੁਆਇੰਟਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਦਾਹਰਣਾਂ ਸਹਿਤ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ। ਡਾ. ਆਰ. ਕੇ. ਨਗੈਚ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਲਈ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਚ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਡਾ. ਚੇਤਨਾ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਬਾਖੂਬੀ ਨਿਭਾਈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਚੇਤਨਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਅਨੁ ਬਾਲਾ, ਡਾ. ਕਵਿਤਾ, ਡਾ. ਕਨਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਸਕਾਲਰ, ਦੂਸਰੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
